Maarit Niemela - Make-up Artist
Finnish born and Swedish trained hair stylist, Maarit Niemela, has been obsessive about hair ever since as an '80s teen she experimented with perms (ít was so bad,' she recalls) in trying to emulate her then screen idol, Kim Basinger.
Now Maarit works her artistry on today's screen gods and goddesses including: Gwyneth Paltrow, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Thandie Newton, Courtney Love and Sophie Dahl. The key to her success with stars is: "Because I'm Finnish I am quite quiet. I research my subject and most importantly I listen to what they like. It's all about making them look good."
Malcolm Edwards was Maarit's mentor when stepping into the archly creative hairdressing world; working with the most coveted catwalk names and on big hitter Ad campaigns like Miu Miu, Prada and Burberry. Now this discreet Finn's work speaks for itself and is admired by photographers at the forefront of fashion imagery like Tim Walker and Mel Bles who work with Maarit for magazines such as W, Pop, Harpers Bazaar and Vogue. Plus commercial clients like Burberry, Vodafone, Aubin and Wills, and Stella McCartney call on Maarit's skills.
It's always opposites that attract. This quiet Scandinavian would love to work with the far from wallflower likes of Lady Gaga and Bjork.

Olivier Schawalder - Hair Stylist
Olivier Schawalder (b. Switzerland) is an accomplished hair stylist based in Paris, France. At the tender age of 16, Olivier Schawalder fell in love with hair. His curiosity led to an internship, a turning point that launched what was to become his career. Beyond mastering the skills of the coiffeur, he quickly understood that he possessed both the passion and imagination to take hair to an art form. From there he entered the world of fashion, working with young designers and photographers. Ten years later, he took another transformative step moving to Tokyo, a city that will leave an indelible mark. From Tokyo, Schawalder establishes a name for himself as an innovative stylist working with all the major magazines in Japan. During this period, Schawalder's definitive signature style is born. Always at the cusp of cutting-edge technique, Schawalder draws on Japanese aesthetics and sophistication to create his trademark looks. As a sculptor to marble, so is Olivier Schawalder to hair.

Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale file for Divorce
Quote:
After almost 13 years of marriage, Gwen Stefani has filed for divorce from Gavin Rossdale. The No Doubt musician cited irreconcilable differences for their split, according to TMZ. Stefani filed her petition for divorce on Monday 2 August, Los Angeles Superior Court spokeswoman Mary Hearn said. The former couple, who married in 2002, have three sons together, and are seeking joint custody of their children Zuma, Kingston and Apollo. “While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment,” they said in a statement. “To that end, we respectfully request privacy from the media during this time.” Speaking to Cosmopolitan in March this year, Stefani described the pressures of being a couple in the public eye. “We go through so much together – it’s a miracle that we could stay together this long,” Stefani told the magazine. “[Gavin’s] on a short tour right now, and he wrote me the sweetest note this morning. It’s good to have those days when we both do our own things. I think that’s what keeps relationships going, when both people can be themselves and have their own individuality. That’s especially important for women. It’s hard to find time for yourself.” The two musicians met in 1995, when No Doubt opened for Bush during their headline tour in support of album Sixteen Stone. |
Have to say - I am surprised by this one! They always looked like such a happy family. I guess you never know ...
Although his career does seem to have stalled / stopped since they married, whereas she's been uber productive!
