Kaitie Hillier & Luella Bartley named Directors of Marc by Marc Jacobs
Quote:
Luella Returns: The Wait Is Over LUELLA BARTLEY has made her long-awaited return to fashion. The designer joins Katie Hillier in a new double-act, at the helm of Marc by Marc Jacobs - the first time that anyone other than Jacobs has had creative control over the brand. While Bartley takes on the role of design director, Hillier has been named creative director at the diffusion label. Jacobs will still be involved in decision-making processes and in an advisory capacity - but will concentrate more on his mainline and commitments with Louis Vuitton. "I'm very excited to have Katie here in her new role. Her creativity and energy inspires me and everybody she works with," Jacobs told WWD. "She is a great leader and a team player, and a great friend to Robert [Duffy] and me." Hillier was hired first, and given the freedom to staff her own team. She immediately appointed Bartley - who she previously designed accessories for when she was running her own ready-to-wear label, Luella. The duo are expected to unveil their first designs for the brand for autumn/winter 2014-15. Expect an emphasis on quality, "interesting" capsule collections and and introduction of new product lines. |

Like a scene from Sliding Doors, Jordy was scouted the first time whilst running for his train he was in a hurry to get to his mothers birthday party. After losing Ivan from I Am ELKs card in the rush, it wasnt until weeks later that they met again by chance while Jordy was shopping in Amsterdam. A test shoot later and Jordys star was on the rise. With his intense gaze and strong facial structure, Jordys appeal is instantaneous. A semi-pro soccer player and also studying law, Jordy has somehow found time to do the shows in London, Milan and New York this season. Already on option for some hot names, the jury is smiling and the verdict is in Jordy is definitely a winner!

Thakoon Resort 2014
Quote:
The opposing ideas of “natural and artificial” were the starting points for Thakoon Panichgul’s resort collection. And there’s nothing more natural than a crisp white shirt, which the designer cleverly riffed on with the perfect poplin shirtdress, a pretty take on a men’s Cuban shirt in point d’esprit and pinstripe silk pants with a shirttail detail at the waist. As for the artificial, it came by giving natural fabrics interesting textures, like woven raffia coated with a gummy treatment on a rounded coat, and a silk gazar shirt with a deconstructed basket-weave motif. Prints and patterns were geometric yet soft — not at all in-your-face. Even the most graphic look, a nifty trapeze top done in vertical panels of ivory silk and black leather, had a sporty elegance. Rendered in a basic palette of white, ivory, navy and black, Panichgul infused the collection with a freshness and ease that grounded his more conceptual work, such as generous side cuts and layered effects, in a cool reality. |

Reed Krakoff Resort 2014
Quote:
Abstract expressionist artist Robert Motherwells Open series of pared-down drawings informed the palette of Reed Krakoffs resort collection. Charcoal black, cornflower blue, grass green and white evolved the designers utilitarian, uniform proclivities with a softer, more feminine touch. There was still a sense of geometry prints bordered with white panels and leather perforations but the silhouettes were less architectural and more curvilinear for a refreshingly light effect. Case in point: a soft tulip-shaped dress with a structured bustier top, and a white trenchcoat done in a hand-drawn floral pattern. It has this sort of sensual, artisanal quality, Krakoff said of the print. He acknowledged a shifting mind-set as well. Im able to relax a bit and let things happen, he said. The biggest difference is to kind of let things evolve. |

Rachel Roy Resort 2014
Quote:
A recent trip to the Amalfi Coast and Turkey put Rachel Roy in a Mediterranean mood for resort. That exotic spirit came through in mosaic tile prints, teardrop embroideries, kaleidoscope patterns and plenty of eyelet to decorate silhouettes ranging from Roys signature shift to fit-and-flare dresses. There were great tops, including mens wear-inspired shirts and feminine blouses, plus jumpsuits for day an embroidered chambray style and night a chic black version with a spiderweb mesh back. |

Rachel Comey Resort 2014
Quote:
Im all about ease, said Rachel Comey, standing beside a makeshift geodesic dome (aka a big hexagon-shaped tent) erected in the middle of her showroom that will serve as her pop-up shop in July at The Surf Lodge in Montauk, N.Y. In keeping with the quirky beach vibe, Comey showed a strong focus on swimwear, most notably with a four-way stretch pin-striped fabric worked on ruched and strappy maillots, as well as boxy tops. She also offered her version of the iconic Baja sweater via a Turkish towel fabric cut into an oversize caftan. |

Adam Lippes Resort 2014
Quote:
In his second season after buying back the rights to his name, Adam Lippes is feeling good. We are in all the stores we wanted to be in, he said while showing his resort collection, which continued the cool but refined aesthetic he set up for fall. Inspired by the artist Peter Dayton, Lippes played with blooming floral patterns in pink and yellow on silk track pants and an easy shirtdress. He also addressed the idea of depth another Dayton reference through a strapless dress layered with a panel of softly pleated silk that fell down the side and back, for example. When it came to eveningwear, Lippes riffed on the currently hot crop-top trend in a elegant way, showing a gown that appeared to be two pieces a short top and a long skirt connected by a sheer lace panel. |
