This is very sad. I grew up watching Ebert & Roeper and he was just about the only film critic whose commentary I'd seek. His statement on Tuesday (which he ended with "I'll see you at the movies") sounded as if he knew he wouldn't make it. R.I.P. Ebert.

Ebert and Gene Siskel co-hosted their iconic review show until Siskel's death in 1999 after a battle with a brain tumor. In an essay on his blog Tuesday, Ebert explained he was planning to slow down and reduce the number of movie reviews he wrote. Ebert had already lost his voice and much of his jaw after battling thyroid and salivary gland cancer. "My intent is to continue to write selected reviews but to leave the rest to a talented team of writers handpicked and greatly admired by me," Ebert wrote. "What's more, I'll be able at last to do what I've always fantasized about doing: reviewing only the movies I want to review." Ebert suffered a hip fracture in December, and it recently led to the revelations about cancer, he said. |

Callan McAuliffe (born Callan Ryan Claude McAuliffe, on 24 January 1995) is an Australian actor. He starred in the American feature films Flipped and I Am Number Four.
He is a native of the Sydney suburb of Clontarf,and attends an all-boy day and boarding school.He was head chorister at the school and topped the London Trinity musical theatre exams.[4] McAuliffe started acting at the age of 8, appeared in the local Australian TV series Comedy Inc. and Blue Water High, and had a recurring role on Packed to the Rafters. He starred in the Australian independent coming-of-age short film, "Franswa Sharl", in 2009, and had a role in Resistance, a U.S./Australian feature film, that year.
McAuliffe made his American feature debut in the Warner Bros. film, Flipped, directed by Rob Reiner. He auditioned for the film while on vacation in the United States and won the role of Bryce, the romantic lead.The film is based on the 2001 novel of the same name by Wendelin Van Draanen.
In May 2010, McAuliffe was cast in a lead role in the science fiction film I Am Number Four, produced by Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay. He played Sam, the best friend of Alex Pettyfer's title character, Number Four. The D.J. Caruso-directed film began production in Pittsburgh in May 2010 and was released in the United States on 18 February 2011. He has been cast as the archangel Uriel in the film version of Paradise Lost.
McAuliffe filmed the Australian TV miniseries, Cloudstreet, based on the book of the same name by Tim Winton. McAuliffe plays the lead, Quick Lamb, a young teenager.
