Early childhood and education Born in California to an African American father and a Hispanic mother, Siya was sent to live with her grandmother by her father who raised her in the Eleanor Roosevelt housing projects in BedfordStuyvesant, Brooklyn since she was 11. Siya began rapping at the age of seven. While in elementary school and throughout her high school years Siya entered contests and talent shows.
