Maranda Widlund - Hair Stylist

From an early age Maranda Widlund was fully aware that she wanted to have a career in fashion. Her roots are deeply embedded within the fashion industry; her mother being a model and her father was a hairstylist when they met on set. Maranda was born in Sweden and quickly capitalized on her ambition to be successful in the field that she was raised in. Maranda was trained as a hairstylist in London and gained much experience in the European scene.

After fine-tuning her expertise in London, Maranda returned to Sweden to pursue her dreams in an innovative way. She bought out a number of "old lady" hair salons and converted them into cutting edge and creative hair studios. It was a chain simply called "Maranda". During this time, Maranda received a call from one of her friends working on an editorial for ELLE asking her to fill in for the hairstylist who was unable to make the shoot. Maranda jumped at the opportunity and quickly realized that on set is where she needed to be.

With the success of her salons and the shoot for ELLE, Maranda began to look for something where she could branch out and explore her artistic talents. She knew it was time for something different and thus moved to Miami. After some time there, Maranda spent some time in New York City and decided that Hollywood was the place for her to be.

Her first job after arriving in Los Angeles was doing hair for a Duran Duran music video. Soon after, Maranda began booking jobs with some of the best in the world of hair and makeup. She's worked on editorials with Vogue, Marie Claire and ELLE to name a few. Her celebrity clientele includes Carrie Underwood, Jada Pinkett-Smith and, most notably, Natasha Beddingfield and Malin Akerman. Working with musicians is a major passion for Maranda, having collaborated with some of the most eclectic artists in the business, ranging from The Killers and Velvet Revolver to Maroon 5 and Robbie Williams. Her long-standing relationship with director Jonas Akerlund has resulted in some of the most iconic images in the commercial and music video world.

Maranda currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughter Biba.

Hello,

I am looking to apply to the Fashion Journalism course at CSM, for entry in September 2016. I am starting Year 13 (Upper Sixth Form) in September so will be starting UCAS applications. Has anyone completed, been accepted, applied or been interviewed for this course? It is one of three pathways of the Fashion Communication course at CSM. I am aware that this course in undeniably competitive, I think only 20 people get on it a year. Does anyone know anything that could help me?

I also have a question about magazine mastheads, I quite often see in magazines, there is an editor and also a director. Like beauty editor, fashion editor, then fashion director, beauty director, market director. What does this actually mean, and what is the difference between them?
